Errol Barrow Day |

Errol Walton Barrow a National
Hero was born in 1920 and died in 1987. He was the third Premier of
Barbados and the leader of the Democratic Labour Party. Mr Barrow
is the father of Independence and the first Prime Minister of Barbados
as an Independent Nation.

Holetown Festival |

The Festival commemorates
the landing of the first settlers to Barbados at Holetown St. James
in 1627. Highlights include street fairs, the Royal Barbados Police
Bandin Concert, a musical festival in the Historic Parish Church and
a Queen Show. The Festival celebrated it's 24th year in existance.

Party" as it culminates in a one day T-shirt band parade.

Gospel Fest |

Gospel Fest is a spiritual
celebration used by Barbadians for generations to express their African
heritage through music. This cadre of songs is captured for three
days in May when Local, Caribbean and International gospel artist
come together for one of the most exciting concerts of its kind. The
Gospelfest is a family event which features a myriad of attractions
and back-to-back performances by a variety of gospel singers.

Crop Over Festival |
 |
|
The highlight of the summer
is the Crop Over Festival an all island jubilation running from Mid
July to early August. Crop Over celebrates the completion of the sugar
cane harvest. Competition "Tents" ring with the fierce battle
of calypsonians for the coveted Calypso Monarch title award, and the
air is redolent with the smell of Barbadian cooking during the massive
Bridgetown Market street fair. Rich with the spirit of local culture.
The Cohobblopot blends drama, dance and music with the crowning of
the King and Queen of costume bands. An exciting evening is the Pic-o-de-Crop
show when the King of Calypsois crowned. The climax of the festival
is Kadooment Day a national holiday when costume bands fill the streets
with pulsating Barbadian rhythms and fireworks ignite the evening
sky.

Kadooment Day |

Is a Barbadian term referring
to an important event. It has been adopted as the name of the final
event of the annual CropOver Festival and takes place on the first
Monday in August. It also attracts the largest crowd for any event
at one place in Barbados. Kadooment begins at 8:00 am with parades
of masquerading bands passing before judges at the National Stadium
and then dancing along the road to Spring Garden.
